Wood compression in four-dimensional in situ tomography

چکیده
Wood deformation, in particular when subject to compression, exhibits scale-free avalanche-like behavior as well structure-dependent localization of deformation. We have taken three-dimensional (3D) x-ray tomographs during compression with constant stress rate loading. Using digital volume correlation, we obtain the local total strain experiment and compare it global acoustic emission. The wood cells collapse layer by throughout sample starting from softest parts, i.e., spring wood. As damage progresses, more softwood layers collapse, which indicates spreading instead localization. In 3D, one can see a fat-tailed distribution, indicating that inside layers, occurs localized spots. observed log-normal distribution is agreement this view development independent collapses or irreversible deformation events. A key feature mechanical then complex interaction between among annual rings.

Four-Dimensional Compression of fMRI Using JPEG2000
Many medical imaging techniques available today generate 4D data sets. One such technique is functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) which aims to determine regions of the brain that are activated due to various cognitive and/or motor functions or sensory stimuli. These data sets often require substantial resources for storage and transmission and hence call for efficient compression algor...
متن کاملAvalanches in Wood Compression.
Wood is a multiscale material exhibiting a complex viscoplastic response. We study avalanches in small wood samples in compression. "Woodquakes" measured by acoustic emission are surprisingly similar to earthquakes and crackling noise in rocks and laboratory tests on brittle materials. Both the distributions of event energies and of waiting (silent) times follow power laws. The stress-strain re...
متن کاملMotion artifact detection in four-dimensional computed tomography images
Motion artifacts appear in four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) images because of suboptimal acquisition parameters or patient breathing irregularities. Frequency of motion artifacts is high and they may introduce errors in radiation therapy treatment planning. Motion artifact detection can be useful for image quality assessment and 4D reconstruction improvement but manual detection in m...
متن کاملFour-dimensional computed tomography (4D CT)--concepts and preliminary development.
Four-dimensional computed tomography (4D CT) is a dynamic volume imaging system of moving organs with an image quality comparable to that of conventional CT. 4D CT will be realized by several technical breakthroughs for dynamic cone-beam CT: (1) a large-area two-dimensional (2D) detector; (2) high-speed data transfer system; (3) reconstruction algorithms; (4) ultra-high-speed reconstruction com...
متن کاملQuantitative assessment of four‐dimensional computed tomography image acquisition quality
The purpose of the present work was to describe the development and validation of a series of tests to assess the quality of four-dimensional (4D) computed-tomography (CT) imaging as it is applied to radiation treatment planning. Using a commercial respiratory motion phantom and a programmable moving platform with a CT phantom, we acquired 4D CT datasets on two commercial multislice helical CT ...
